Two years ago, on New Year's Day, I woke up and noticed I was

peeing blood into the toilet. I said aloud, "I know what caused it. I've

been waiting for you to show up."


I avoided going to the doctor for a week, hoping it would just go away.

Eventually, I made an appointment, did the bloodwork, and got the

results.


"You have an aggressive Stage Four," the doctor said. "It's left the barn

and is colonizing your lymph nodes. On a scale from one to ten, your

results register a 26. Do you have a will? It's time to put your affairs in

order."


I stopped giving keynotes, consulting, and training coaches with my

wife in our horse-based Per-View method for healing veterans and

families.


The turning point came with my psychoanalyst playing guitar and

singing of a black jaguar. I closed my eyes and saw a baby Buddha:

"Be grateful for Agent Orange. Make friends with the Orange living cells

in your body."


"WTF?" I asked. "You want me to make friends with the cells eating my

body?" He just smiled.


So I began to restory my relationship with Agent Orange, PTSD, my

divorce, and bankruptcy. Two months ago, the doctor said: "You're now

cancer-free."


In a moment of raw truth during coaching, I cried out: "I want to live

a gain. I want my life back."


I've written 35 books and 150 articles. I've been University Teacher of

the Year six times. I love speaking on leading millennials, conflict

across generations, and healing trauma through horses.

A horse will run if you embody anger. But it will lick your face if you're

shut down in depression.

Methodology

. This method assembles story in silence, and participants tell their story visually, without words. This is an intuitive process of coaching participants to feel the vibrant energy of things. Stories are assembled by the things that call out to participants energetically noting the distinctive capacities or efficacious powers of particular material configurations. Participants learn to reassemble things. The process elicits memories and futures that are not accessible with words alone. Why? Because veterans don't want to talk about their past.

With “onto-story. The tale hazards an account of materiality, even though it is both too alien and too close to see clearly and even though linguistic means prove inadequate to the task” (Jane Bennett, p. 4).

Materials

Participants, please assemble your own sand tray material items. Each item needs to be no more than 4 inches high, so the things can be arranged in a clear plastic tray approximately 2 foot by 2 foot. (or slightly larger) Source can be your own toy chest, or Hobby Lobby. Play Sand is a specially graded, washed sand that has been screened. It is ideal for children's play sand boxes, molding and building.

Jane Bennett’s Vibrant Matter into seven relevant themes that align with the 7 Steps of the PerView method for coaching entrepreneurs using Sand Tray storytelling.

Each session will interweave the PerView Restorying step with Jane Bennett’s vibrant onto-story (the ontology of storytelling with thing power) and practical sand tray applications for embodied restorying.

Sand tray therapy traces back to Margaret Lowenfeld in the 1920s in the UK. She developed what she called the “World Technique,” which allowed children to express complex emotions nonverbally using miniatures in a sandbox.

Later, Dora Kalff, a Swiss Jungian therapist, adapted Lowenfeld’s method in the 1950s and renamed it â€œSandplay Therapy.” Kalff’s version integrated Jungian psychology, focusing on the unconscious, archetypes, and symbolic healing. It became widely adopted in clinical settings, particularly with children, but later expanded to include adults.
